Learning is a process that never ends, education and learning is of the utmost importance. The keywords are: Trusting intuition, practice, integrity, study, and offering guidance.
The first step is practice, it is often recommended to practice with the Rider Waite Smith Tarot Deck if you are doing traditional tarot readings. Learning all possible meanings and symbolism is very important. This can take a lot of time to learn about the 78 cards(Major 22, Minor 56). You will also need to know meanings for love, career, general, and etherical meanings.
The main question that you have to ask yourself is: what type of cards do I wish to look at and read everyday? Do you want to be an Oracle o Tarot card reader? Do you want to be an Angel card expert? An oracle card expert or do you want to be a tarot card expert? Or is it all of the above? If so, then you will definitely need to spend the time and it is worth taking energy in the effort to learn or skills.
Practice everyday and also begin to learn different types of card spreads such as, a three card spread, a 10 card spread, and compatibility spreads. Even though there are a lot of people out there who are against yes or no readings. They are still requested by clients and that's all that matters is what the clients are asking for. One card questions is also a skill that you will have to learn, which is a lot different from other card spreads. The client may never give you time or even want clarification cards.
That's another thing to learn about is, what are clarification cards, what are significative cards? What are aura cards and what are advice cards? You may or may not have all of these in one session and that's OK.
You will find that you will gravitate toward certain types of cards, which may also include Oracle cards or other types of playing cards, which is totally fine. The number one thing is that sessions are for entertainment purposes. We are merely giving people interesting things to think about. We are not there for emergencies and we are mot legal, financial, or medical advisors. Always recommend that people see professionals for specific purposes. Readers are not a one size fits all type of mentality. Ethics is a big part of this practice and creating boundaries is the most difficult thing you will have to deal with.
Be honest with outcomes and scenarios, don't tell people what they want to hear just because it sounds good. Also do keep an optimistic approach to things. Educate your clients and encourage them to keep up on their shadow work. You may feel like you're repeating things you've told them before but this is a part of doing your side of the work.
Burn a candle or two to help create an atmosphere of relaxation. Make sure you're well rested and be distraction free. It is very important for you to be comfortable so that you can easily give your clients the time they need.
